NOMAD VENICE 2019
NOMAD VENICE 2019
We participated in the last edition of NOMAD VENICE with ORMEGGI, the special project of bespoke pieces inspired by Venetian lore. Holy symbols and profane tools act as waymarkers in the collection, which explores the rich historical narrative of ‘La Serenissima’, the ancient name of the Venetian Republic.
The main, monumental component of the installation, a six-meter long transparent screen, interpreted “Briccola”, the nautical tool used to help sailors to navigate the waterways of the lagoon in Venice. Further source of inspiration is “Bitta”, the small and robust column culminating in a mushroom-shaped head used to welcome the ropes of the ships that settle for moorage. The installation included a concrete desk featuring decorative details obtained from the chemical reaction of salt flakes. The desk structure with two overlapping sections resembles a “Croce” (or cross), illustrating the relationship of independence and sovereignty of the Serenissima towards the Church.
During the weekend of Nomad, the installation has been coming to life in the arcade entry of the newly restored Palazzo Soranzo Van Axel, overlooking the canal.
